Leaving Barbarism
by
James Adrian
Introduction
March 1, 2024

In 1944, I was born in North Africa (then known as French West Africa) of parents who were American citizens of European descent. I was raised in Rochester, NY after the end of World War II.

My purpose in writing this book is to share my observations about widely unappreciated causes of violence and war, and various related matters. Nothing I have learned is more relevant to the wellbeing and happiness of people.

The statements in this book are based on my direct experience together with some items backed up by science that can be checked by the reader.

When basic facts about human culture are discovered that have not yet been introduced to the public, a whole new genre of novels and movies is thereby created. People are generally unaware of the fact than many of their feelings and reactions are not natural features of being born human, but are learned. This nonfiction book describes what a person can do to unlearn various destructive feelings built into cultures by means of centuries of barbarism, war, murders, resentments, and the wish to control the decisions that rightly belong to others.

There is much more, but the remedy is to inspire a multitude of novels and movies that illustrate a better path. There are countless consequences that can be discerned.

How people feel and behave is critical to the way they relate to each other, and to what governmental actions they vote for, and to what non-lethal technologies they support, and a multitude of other features of our cultures.

How people thrive is enormously influenced by their personal values, the emotional characteristics of their leaders, their unfortunate acceptance of extreme centralization of decision-making power, the misinformation concerning their cognitive potential, their lack of understanding of brainwashing, and the many impediments to the good things that they wish for.

The goodness in your life is important, whether you connect goodness with God or not.

I hope that my observations prove useful.
